Temp Directory Purpose

#1

Unlike the Trash directory, which is also present by default, the Temp directory is not documented in StackEdit’s welcome file.

What is the Temp directory for?

I don’t quite know either, but here’s what I could figure out:

  • Files in the Temp folder are called “Temporary files” various places in the UI, unsurprisingly.

  • If you try to publish or synchronize a Temporary file it won’t let you.
(I guess that means the files are local device only, maybe?)

  • Like the Trash folder, it is treated specially:

    • You cannot rename the Temp folder or created sub-folders in it.
    • The Temp folder itself can not be deleted, only the files in it.
  • Interestingly, unlike the Trash folder (and all other files/folders), files in the Temp folder can be deleted permanently, and are not just moved to the Trash folder.

  • You can move files out of the Temp folder, but not into it
(this means you’ll still have to wait a whole 7 days to delete files normally ; )

  • Temporary files are exported in workspace backups just like files in the Trash, AFAICT.

Okay, that’s all I could think of to test for (yes, I just gathered this info to answer your question : )
